Al Mireault ’15: The True King of Hearts

Posted by: Chris Schlaepfer

On April 6th, 2012, the Alpha Phi sorority held their annual “King of Hearts” event to raise money for women’s heart health. Presented as a male beauty pageant, contestants in the show from various fraternities across campus strove to earn high scores from the judges in categories such as swimwear, eveningwear, talent, and an interview. Naturally, Kappa Sigma came out guns blazing; Al Mireault ’15 put on an absolutely stunning performance, and was without a doubt the highlight of the show.

While Al showed off his ridiculous athleticism and outstanding poise in the swimwear and eveningwear portions of the pageant, he truly came into his own in the talent competition. Al started off with an absurdly intricate diabolo routine, which in itself was enough to outdo all of the other contestants’ previous talents combined. But this was just the beginning for our resident circus performer. Al proceeded to place four champagne bottles on a table, on top of which he placed a chair, on top of which he placed another (angled!) chair, on top of which he placed yet ANOTHER chair. Likely because he thought the tower just wasn’t tall enough, Al finally threw himself on the unstable platform, over 15 ft. in the air, and shocked the audience with the most terrifying handstand any of us had ever seen. As always, the brothers of Kappa Sigma were in the audience cheering him on every step of the way.

Due to an outdated and unreasonable judging system, Al placed 2nd place in the competition rather than the 1st place that he rightfully deserved. Kappa Sigma couldn’t be happier, however; Al put on an unforgettable show, and we were honored to have had him represent us.

The video of Al’s performance can be found here.
