Kappa Sigma - Gamma-Pi Chapter

Students say that getting an education at MIT is like trying to take a drink from a fire hose. That's why, here at the Institute, it's important to have a close group of friends that's always willing to hang out or help out. That is what Kappa Sigma is all about.

By joining Kappa Sigma, you will become a part of a history and brotherhood that stretches back over 600 years. Kappa Sigma Fraternity is one of the 5 largest Fraternities in the world with over 200 Chapters across the United States and Canada and 230,000 initiates of which over 177,000 are living and 11,600 are undergraduates. Our Chapter has over 40 current Brothers, who are all striving towards the same goal: to make these the best 4 years of our lives.

The Brotherhood, however, doesn't end when you graduate: the friends that you make here will last you the rest of your life. At our last Founders' Day Weekend, where alumni visit the Chapter, we had over 65 alumni attend, dating back to the class of 1956. You will not find this kind of camaraderie in a dormitory. As soon as you join, you will find yourself bonding with other members of your pledge class, with the Brothers, and with our Alumni. We reinforce fellowship through camping trips to New Hampshire, white water rafting in Maine, social events, and pledge class dinners.

Whether it's our annual Beach, Volcano, and Border parties or our amazing Formals (our Winter Formal where we spend the weekend at a lodge in New Hampshire snowboarding and skiing is second to none), there is ALWAYS something going on at Kappa Sigma. When there isn't a big event planned, you can find Brothers catching a movie downtown, grabbing dinner in the city, or hanging out in one of the many lounges in our house.

The Chapter also has a strong focus on academics, athletics, and community service.

We have one of the best academic programs of any Fraternity on campus. We have over 100 course bibles, which contain old problem sets, exams, and notes from classes. Each underclassmen is paired with an upperclassmen with the same major, so that they can work together to discuss homework, form class schedules, and get advice on resumes and internships. Additionally, Kappa Sigma Fraternity awards over $300,000 in scholarships each year (12 members of our Chapter won awards this year totaling over $25,000).

We also have several varsity athletes, and the Chapter has intramural football, soccer, ultimate, ice hockey, volleyball, basketball, and ping pong teams.

Each year, the Chapter participates in community service events around Boston, including an annual bone marrow drive and the Boston Marathon. We also host our own Rock Paper Scissors Tournament on campus to benefit a local charity. This year already, the Chapter volunteered over 3,000 hours and raised over $3,500 for charities.

Our house is located on Memorial Drive in the middle of dormitory row (yeah...we don't like walking across the river in the middle of February either). Our chef prepares lunch and dinner five days a week. Our house has a pool table, ping pong table, projector on the first floor, and a roof deck overlooking Boston (just to name a few of the amenities).

When rush comes around, stop by our place at 407 Memorial Drive to learn more about what Kappa Sigma is all about. We are always looking for motivated and well-rounded individuals to make our Chapter the best on campus, and more importantly, to help make these the greatest four years of our lives.

If you have any questions about the Fraternity and/or rush, please contact our rush chair, Mingwei Gu.
