MIT and Kappa Sigma have led to some very great opportunities. I am a senior in the department of Aeronautics and Astronautics focusing in Propulsion. I spent this last summer working for SpaceX in LA on their Merlin Rocket Engines. I have dreamt of building rockets and airplanes since elementary school and it is awesome to actually get to live that dream. I am also a member of the MIT Design Build Fly team that competes in an international remote control UAV competition each year. I love sports and enjoy playing all the intramurals with my fraternity brothers. Soccer and Skiing are my big ones. I also enjoy playing my guitar now and then.

Rook #: 1
Year: 2014
Course: 2A w/ 15
Hometown: Archer City, TX
I’m from a very small town in north central Texas where I grew up playing football and baseball. I still play baseball here at MIT. My parents worked for American Airlines so I have always loved to travel. I picked up golf in junior high, and I try to get a round in wherever I go. Recently I interned for Pioneer Natural Resources, a larger independent oil company, as a mechanical engineer, and I am seriously considering working for them upon graduation.
Rook #: 2
Year: 2014
Course: 1E – Environmental Engineering
Hometown: Abington, PA
Born in Philadelphia an avid sports fan, my family moved northwest of the northeast part of the city to the comfy borough of Rydal, an unincorporated community in Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. There aren’t many things I’d rather do than play pick-up sports with my friends or cheer on the Eagles, Sixers, Union, Phillies, Flyers, and USMNT. Football (soccer) was chosen as my “dedication sport” at age 12 and now I serve the role of co-captain on the MIT Men’s Varsity squad. The world’s impending energy crisis has inspired me to change majors from Chemistry to Environmental Engineering along with a minor in Energy Studies and a humanities concentration in Spanish. I have held the position of Athletics Chairman and am the current Steward of Gamma Pi. In my free time I enjoy fraternizing with friends and experiencing the nightlife of Boston.
Rook #: 3
Year: 2014
Course: 6-3, 18
Hometown: Guaynabo, Puerto Rico
I was born and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, where I spent my days sipping on piña coladas at the beach while dancing to some tropical tunes. When not enjoying paradise, I played tons of tennis, competed internationally in math and physics, and came up with all sorts of business schemes (who knew you could import BB guns from China for about a dollar apiece?!). Currently, I’m doubling in 6-3 and 18, directing the Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship focus group of the SBC, interning at Google, and working on a startup company. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day.
Rook #: 4
Year: 2014
Course: 2A (Mechanical Engineering)
Hometown: Ponce, PR
I’m a Junior studying Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Brain and Cognitive Sciences….. for now. Basically I want to work with smart prosthetics (Biomechatronics). I’m from PONCE, southern Puerto Rico, probably the most Puertorican person you will meet at MIT. Few basic spanish bad words: cabron, mamabicho.. yeah thats about what you’ll need. I enjoy listening and dancing to Reggaeton (what Daddy Yankee sings for those who don’t know what it is), going to parties, play any sport (especially volleyball), and will probably start practicing parkour/free running. You can ask me later about “The Crespo”.
Rook #: 6
Year: 2014
Course: 6-3 Computer Science and Engineering
Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri!
Hey, I’m Justin!… some people call me J. I’m a stand up guy, but I can sit down too. My two favorite sports are the b-ball ones (that is… basket and base). Being that I am a Computer Science and Engineering major, I like computer science and engineering. Mobile phones are not computers, but are similar, so I like the science and engineering of those too. I have an iPhone, but I mostly program on the Droid platform, and whenever I’m using a Droid (“Droid!”) I keep my iPhone in my pocket so that my new roommate MAM (KS’14 Rook 2) doesn’t repetitively enter the wrong passcode until it locks. I “played” (I use that term loosely) on the MIT Varsity Baseball Team my Freshman year but since I didn’t really play (see parenthesized comment in beginning of sentence) I have since focused my time on other things like classes, start-ups, and our reigning B-League champion intramural basketball team. I loved chillin’ with friends and list’nin’ to music on my computer until RJB’s (KS’14 Rook 25) giant superhero shield fell off our shelf and broke it. Now I like chillin’ with friends and list’nin’ to music on my iPod when I go on leisurely runs about the Charles River. My favorite time ends in ‘oclock. All in all I’m a friendly guy, because hey – being asian isn’t half bad. I am very excited for my baby brother Kendall (’16) to join me at MIT this fall! Ask anyone and they will tell you that I am very proud to be from ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI! I spend last semester as Gamma Pi’s Printer Chair (not like a computer chair). As one of the three Network Chairmen of the house, I would fix the printers when they were broken, which mostly meant getting new ink from Malcolm’s mom. Well that’s me! Justin [clap] out [airplane arms], [exit stage right].

On my free time: I like spending time with my friends, playing guitar, listening to music, traveling when I can, and reading about things I find awesome: consumer tech, international affairs, politics, cars, and random articles on wikipedia (such as this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feral_dogs_in_Moscow). I spent this past summer working at Lambda Prime, a fund that invests in, and works hands-on with, promising high-tech startups, where I researched Business Incubators and Venture Capital. I plan to one day own a thriving business in the not-so-distant future. Before that, I’d like to get more experience in the business world, and the startup scene in particular.I look forward to 2 more awesome years at MIT. I also love quotes, so here is one: “Of those to whom much is given, much is asked in return.”
